I've read the adult Magic stories and quite enjoyed them. This one is a little different life for the main characters, with the dad being same guy but now with a family. Also, the dog is still fairly young but the kids are a little to old for the family history to work, unless Ryann was already married with two kids before he met Magic in Iran. So, the history is different, but it still is a rousing good story with an interesting plot, no sex and quick twists and turns which kept me up half the night reading it to the end.Product details

Strange Magic Young Adult edition by Edmond Humm Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This book was AWESOME!!! in every way. I loved this book, and read the next one, Strange Magic. I wish there were more. Love it. Magic was a special dog and knew that he had to save Ryan Quinn as Ryan saved his life. His personality in his emails were wonderful. There wasn't a dry moment in the book. Babak was a bad guy and glad he was done away with, and glad he didn't get Magic back.
Worst editing o.k.
Worst editing I have ever encountered. Spelling and syntax was so awful I found myself terribly distracted from the thin story line. so dissatisfied.
This book is the second in a series about this dog, who is a result of an experiment in Iran to mix human DNA with canine DNA. It's fun and entertaining. Definitely read the first novel, Magic, before you read this one or it would probably be confusing. If you love good stories about dogs and those who love them, this is a good buy.
Having read the first book in this series, Magic, I couldn't wait to read this one. In the first book, Magic's adventure was with a marine. This time it was with the daughter of the marine. The time frame doesn't add up and the errors drove me nuts. I survived both. The dog is as compelling as ever, and the young heroine is true to life. I love the imagination of the author and will look for more books about Magic.
I am confused which book should carry the true story of Magic, the genetically enhanced golden retriever from Iran. I read a book earlier on from the same author, Edmond Humm, that relates the story of Magic, how he rescued a Marine and how he came to live with the Marine back in the U.S., then heroically stop a terroristic act. I thought Strange Magic would pick up from where the book ended. It did....or not.
Although the marine is still one of the main characters, he is now married to her then girlfriend in the first book. They now have 2 kids. That's still good. But the time frame is wrong. The first book tells that Magic is just over a year old, so if this book is a continuation of the first, then with the Marine's kids being teeners, Magic should be older as well. However, the first chapter claims that he's just a year old, a brought home by the Marine from the war. It surely does not coincide. The same characters.... different facts. It leaves the impression that I am reading two different realities of Magic. If so, then I prefer the first story of Magic. This one just doesn't coincide with all the info I already know and have accepted from the first.
It would have been much better if the dog was another one like Magic, and not Magic himself. Or Humm could have tweaked some facts of Strange Magic to have continuity and consistency from the first. Also, the story flow from the book Magic is more fluid than this book Strange Magic, the last one ended somewhat abruptly. The last chapter feels truncated. Still, they are both good stories, but the first one appears more well laid out and have fewer typo & grammatical errors. In both stories, Magic is consistent as a lovable, highly intelligent dog who cares for the what's right and wrong, and ensures the safety of his family. It is a tale for people who love dogs with a twist of action and suspense that would keep you guessing of the outcome till the end.
I love Magic!! No, I mean Mr. Humm's dog. Read the original story, MAGIC, and while Mr. Humm said this is not a sequel, I guess you could call it one of MAGIC 's adventures. I plan to read the rest of his books, and want to get them for my grandchildren too. It's a really fun, different and I guess you might call it a magic "spy" novel. Certainly not a "Tom Clancy" novel, but fun for young & old - and dog lovers! - alike. Ten stars!!
After reading the first two books, Magic (dog mysteries), and Magics Charm, I just had to read this one too. I could never get enough Magic, and I hope Ed Humm writes a ton of them. You just can't go wrong with a dog that has human intelligence, is extremely resourcefull and smart, and has love and loyalty in his heart. It was an excellent story, and now I know why so many of the commentators were in their 40's and 50's. There's no age range limit for a "Magic" book.
